Birichino Tasting Room
The brainchild of John Locke and Alex Krause, the Birichino brand has garnered international attention since its infancy in 2008. In 2017, the duo decided to open a brick and mortar tasting room in downtown Santa Cruz. Stripe partnered with John and Alex to create a space that resonates with the playfulness of the Birichino brand, whilst providing a comfortable and elegant space in which the wine can be sampled.
Aside from the bar, which boasts a deeply detailed profile and custom cabinets decorated with both product and humorous references, a huge heirloom gilded mirror has a center stage presence in the room. Inherited by Krause, the mirror was previously stored in Florida, where he retrieved it and drove it back across the country to its new spot in the tasting room where it leans up against a complimentary backdrop of green linen wallpaper. The aesthetic of the space has a strong nod to 18th century Parisian bar culture, whilst the lighting and finishes play into the strong Art Deco language of the building.
